 SportsTalk with Steve Kaplowitz Minimize

Sportstalk with Steve Kaplowitz

Welcome to the offical KROD Sportstalk home page.  This page will have everything you need to keep up with your local and national sports.  If you've ever wondered how we come up with all of our show topics, here's a list of websites we use every day. I don't want to give away too many secrets, but I know you'll find some of these very handy.

Steve Kaplowitz

Steve Kaplowitz, originally from New York, moved to El Paso in 1978. After graduating from Coronado High School and receiving his bachelor’s of arts in broadcast journalism from the University of Texas in 1995, he returned to El Paso to pursue a career in radio.

In 1996, Steve began hosting a weekend sports talk show on KROD 600. One year later, he took over as the station’s Program Director and moved into weekday afternoon timeslot as the host of Sportstalk.

In 2007, Kaplowitz was the television play-by-play voice for NMSU football and basketball, and he has also served as play-by-play announcer and analyst for the UTEP Miners women’s basketball team, the El Paso Buzzards Hockey Club and the High School Football Game of the Week.

Steve has worked as both a reporter and weekend anchor at KDBC-TV (CBS) and KTSM-TV (NBC) and currently co-hosts the Time Warner’s Metro Sports Talk with Wayne Thornton.  Kaplowitz, his wife Karen, and golden retrievers Samson and Delilah reside in West El Paso.

Forget any thoughts of the UTEP Men's basketball team making the postseason.  That ended last night in Dallas with a double OT loss to the Mustangs.  I don't know what's worse, losing to a horrible SMU team or freshman sensation Randy Culpepper getting into it with Tony Barbee.  Both are signs of frustration for this young Miners team.  Since Barbee has repeatedly questioned his team's toughness, how does the coaching staff make this team any stronger?
