 KROD's Dave Garcia

David GarciaDave Garcia was born in South El Paso on December 17, 1953. He went to St.Patrick Elementary School before attending prep school at Jesuit Preparatory. In 1972 he started college at University of Dallas, then finished at Southern Methodist University in Journalism.

During that summer while on his way to Nursing School, KTSM TV came calling. Since David had worked at KROD radio between school semesters, the move to a full-time radio job seemed logical.

David moved across town to KDBC as a photographer/reporter until two years later he moved to Midland, Texas for a two-year stint as sports reporter/producer.

Then a flurry of stops that started with PM magazine in San Antonio, Texas and ended with another stop at KTSM TV. David started as a sports photographer and held a series of job that included sports, assignments desk, producer and Managing Editor.

In 1992 He left the media to work for El Paso’ County and District Attorneys. That only lasted two years when he was easily coaxed into returning to the media. At KDBC TV David and Cathy Garcia started the city’s first “Live at Five” early newscast. (Trivia: his first co-anchor was Cathy Garcia-No relation, but everybody thought they were married, which really upset her boy-friend) He stayed there as a news anchor-reporter and producer until 2003.

Since being the administrator at a private school, David once again returned to media as a Marketing consultant with a confidential client list that includes politicians, celebrity marketing, public health institutions-commissions and medical directors all over the United States.

He remains active in his passion of the sport of Polo where he is an internationally rated player, playing all over the United States, Europe and Mexico.

He lives in El Paso, Texas with his 16 year old son.
