I understand that any major golf tournament without Tiger Woods lacks mass appeal. It is a fact. However, there are some people who remember golf without Tiger (B.T. if you will). The B.T. era had many great players and storylines. The 1986 Masters, where a 46 year old Jack Nicklaus came out of hibernation to capture his 6th green jacket will always be among the top moments in the history of golf. I will concede that Tiger is beyond human, and nothing will top Tiger outlasting a gutty Rocco Mediate on one leg and a shot knee. Paddy Harrington hardly moves the needle like Tiger, but what he has done in the last two majors is incredible. This man apparently has ice water coursing through his veins. Other than Tiger, I have never seen any one in recent history navigate the back nine on Sunday at a major championship. His putts on 16, 17, and 18 were the stuff of legends. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia is cementing his legacy as a whiny, spoiled country-clubber with world class talent and the mental toughness of a gnat. A modern day Tom Weiskopf comes to mind when discussing Sergio. He has a fluid golf swing and hits it as long and accurate as anybody, but seems to crumble when any sort of pressure is applied. Paddy is the epitome of a grinder. He does nothing exceptional, except close out big tournaments. These last two Tigerless majors have been incredible, and I hope history and the media does not cheapen them because they were missing the greatest player of all times!
