Before he takes off for the holiday, Rep Reyes has some work ahead. Minimize
Before he takes off for the holiday, Rep Reyes has some work ahead.

El Paso’s U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes will have holiday weekend off but before he takes off he joined a majority in the House of Representatives who support a new law that will provide tax relief for middle class families and create thousands of new “green collar” jobs. It’s called  The Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act

The bill extends the federal tax deduction for state and local sales taxes, but since Texas does not have an income tax, Texans we’ll get nothing out of this part of the bill, but the bill also provides tax relief to homeowners who do not itemize their deductions. Now they’ll get as much as a  $350 deduction for single tax payers for property taxes, in addition to their standard deduction.

Teachers will also get a deduction for teachers who pay for classroom expenses out of their own pockets. If the bill passes we’ll extend the current deduction for college tuition.
