James Peake, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs was here for a firsthand look at El Paso's VA clinic after he heard El Paso's facility is among the worst in the nation.
The Secretary didn’t come alone. Congressman Silvestre Reyes and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison came too and she says we need some changes like more doctors and nurse practitioners and clerks that can help with data transfer. Hutchison is a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee. There is more talk of building a VA hospital in El Paso. Right now some veterans have to go to Albuquerque. Senator Hutchison says she's not sure if an El Paso hospital, or expanding the clinical, is the best option.
